Simpson Bay Resort Has Re-opened

Simpson Bay Resort St. Maarten
Submitted by administrator on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 18:26

I just came back from the resort today Saturday 12 March, and can report that all rooms are open and that people are happily checking in. I spoke to several of the timeshare owners who were all quite pleased to be back "home" again. Several guests had made alternate reservations and were glad to have not needed them. One couple I spoke to said they had been following the news and had just crossed their fingers that all would be okay for today. A few commented that they felt sorry for the week 8,9, and 10 people who had to go elsewhere. Hopefully the worst is now over and residents and visitors alike can look forward to a brighter future.

Hot off the Presses - Some Good News For Simpson Bay Resort Owners

Submitted by administrator on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 20:55

Not a re-opening date, but still very good news. RCI and II, the 2 big exchange companies, have made a temporary agreement to accept future bankings for the Simpson Bay Resort even though it is closed. If your first love is St. Maarten and you want to be guaranteed St. Maarten accommodations, we recommend that from week 13 on you book a suite at maintenance fees at one of our member resorts participating. By that time we will not need to send you to a hotel to find space. Simpson Bay Resort at a minimum will be providing future accommodations for what you are not able to use while closed, so you would not lose time.

If on the other hand you  were intending to bank your week and not come to St. Maarten this year and have a close date this is very helpful. Weeks wiith either exchange company can be deposited just 2 weeks prior to the start date of the week, but with a lower trading power for you. Both exchange companies, who are also off-island members of the SMTA are willing to share some of the expense to make sure that St. Maarten's timeshare owners are appreciated in every way. Remember though, If you want to come to St. Maarten click read more....

March 3rd update for Simpson Bay Resort / Pelican

Submitted by administrator on Thu, 03/03/2011 - 22:04

We are about to start week 10. Negotiations continue as both the resort and the union are hoping for a speedy solution. At this time there is still a big divide on a few key points. Theoretically the resort could be ready for re-opening in just 2 days after a settlement. For those owners with weeks 11 that have not secured alternate space, there is some inventory at maintenance fee rates at Atrium, Belair, Sea Palace, Flamingo, Royal Palm, Royal Islander, Ocean Club, Oyster Bay, and Port de Plaisance though space is still limited. You can use the member pages for contact info. When those spaces are gone look on the post below for discounted rooms. From week 12 on there will be more availability at member resorts at maintenance fee rates.

Friday update Pelican / Simpson Bay Resort

3 way negotiations continue between the resort, the union and the St. Maarten government. With no confirmed breakthrough as yet, it is safe to say that the resort will not re-open this weekend. Please be aware that Heinekin Regatta is next weekend and that space on the island will be very limited for week 10 arrivals if you have not made alternate arrangements yet.

Sunday Pelican / Simpson Bay Resort Update

Submitted by administrator on Sun, 02/20/2011 - 18:07

Just came from a visit to the resort. All timeshare owners and guests have now checked out. The staff who are still on property, reported that all went smoothly, if not a bit sadly, and that everyone has been successfully placed in alternate accommodations. Our government has both the resort and the union in mediation this weekend and talks are proceeding in an effort to reach an agreement to get the resort re-opened.

SMTA is Working to Accommodate All Pelican Owners

Submitted by administrator on Sat, 02/12/2011 - 16:26

The surprise move to close the Pelican Resort, recently renamed the Simpson Bay Resort and Marina effective February 20th has caused a lot of concern for people both on the Island who had plans to stay there past that date and for many more planning to arrive from February 19th onwards. The St. Maarten Timeshare Association is working both with member resorts and hotels to secure rooms for everyone.

We treasure your commitment to vacation on our Island. Please check back on this page Monday afternoon for an update and a toll free number that Pelican timeshare owners can call for rates and availability. You can also read our release of today, Saturday the 12th, to The Daily Herald.  http://www.thedailyherald.com/islands/1-islands-news/13630-timeshare-association-works-to-accommodate-pelican-owners.html
